Tripod Heads

Frame, adjust and readjust in a heartbeat; perfectly align every angle to the architecture; or track a racing subject in one unwavering glide. Whether the job requires speed, precision, smoothness or all three, CameraPro stocks the tripod head you need. We carry a diverse range of professional quality tripod heads for still photography and video, including ball heads, 3-way heads, geared heads, gimbal heads and fluid heads.

Choose from our range of tripod kits (which include both a tripod head and legs) or mix and match separate tripod legs and tripod heads to build the ideal combination of support and control for your gear.

The Right Tripod Head for the Right Application

Which tripod head you should buy depends on what you usually shoot, as well as personal preference. Many tripod heads (e.g. ball or 3-way heads) are versatile enough for multiple applications, though some photographers/videographers may require different tripod heads for different jobs. Fortunately, standard screws are used on most tripods - meaning virtually any head from any manufacturer will fit on virtually any tripod (depending on payload).

Strong yet compact in design and simple in operation, ball heads are the most popular tripod heads for most kinds of still photography. The ball-based design of these heads allows almost 360° of adjustment so you can quickly and easily pan, tilt or rotate, then secure. (Bear in mind that, because ball heads have only one control for all three axes, it can be tricky to change one axis without also changing the others.)

If you shoot primarily in the studio or like to compose your photos carefully and deliberately, then a larger 3-way head might be the best option. These 3-way heads allow you to individually adjust the pan, tilt and rotation of the camera (without affecting any of the others).

For fine adjustments and exact composition, you can’t go past a geared head. Like a 3-way head, a geared head allows you to individually control each of the three axes (pan, tilt, rotate), but with even greater precision. Perfect for architectural, studio and landscape photography.

Photographers who use really large cameras and lenses to track or pan (e.g. for shooting wildlife or sports) are best off with a gimbal head. Gimbals provide stabilisation along three axes and automatically balance the entire camera/lens load, making sure that the camera remains steady while panning or tracking. Thanks to slick pivot points, they’re also extremely useful for shooting video as they reduce camera shake.

Video shooters need a tripod head that can pan and tilt; most dedicated video heads feature a long arm for ease and smoothness of operation. For best results we recommend a fluid head, which is designed to prevent shakes and shudders.
