Advanced Close-Up Shooting

The FE 100mm Macro delivers outstanding close-up performance with a greater-than-life-size 1.4x maximum magnification and a minimum focus distance of 10.2", providing a working distance of 3.5". A focus range limiter switch improves autofocus speed by restricting focus distances, while a sliding focus ring allows instant switching between manual and autofocus modes. Focus distance and magnification scales are clearly printed for precision in technical, manual-focus work. For even more versatility, the lens supports optional Sony teleconverters to increase maximum magnification up to 2.8x.

G Master Optical Quality

As the first true macro in Sony’s G Master lineup, this lens features advanced optical technologies for superb sharpness and beautifully smooth bokeh. Its 17-element, 13-group design incorporates two XA (eXtreme Aspherical) elements and two ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass elements to minimise aberrations. Nano AR Coating II enhances contrast by reducing flare and ghosting, while internal focusing ensures consistent lens length. A floating focus design supports compact construction, and an 11-blade circular aperture delivers pleasing, rounded bokeh.

Autofocus and Image Stabilisation

Driven by four XD linear motors, autofocus is nearly silent, exceptionally fast, and up to 1.9x quicker than the FE 90mm f/2.8 Macro G OSS. The system is optimised for advanced cameras such as the a9 III, supporting 120 fps bursts and 4K 120p recording. Floating focus reduces aberrations at close range, while internal focus maintains lens balance. Built-in Optical SteadyShot image stabilisation is optimised for macro shooting and works in coordination with in-body stabilisation for maximum steadiness.

Teleconverter Compatibility

The FE 100mm f/2.8 Macro GM is compatible with Sony’s 1.4x and 2x Teleconverters:

• With the 1.4x Teleconverter, the effective focal length is 140mm, the maximum magnification is 2x, and the aperture becomes f/4.

• With the 2x Teleconverter, the effective focal length is 200mm, the maximum magnification is 2.8x, and the aperture becomes f/5.6.
