Camera Remotes

Camera remotes—or remote control shutter releases—give photographers the freedom to trigger cameras from a distance. If you plan to do long exposure photography, require completely shake-free shots, or need to be away from the camera while taking the photo (e.g. to shoot wildlife or a self portrait), a camera remote is essential. A camera remote also lets you create a wide range of interesting visual effects.

Be Remotely Ready

Mirrorless or DSLR remote controls are quite affordable, simple to use and easy to throw into your camera bag, ready when needed. CameraPro carries wireless camera remote controls and also wired shutter release cables for leading camera brands including Nikon, Canon, Sony, Panasonic, Olympus and Fujifilm.

Freedom to Create

Having your camera steadied on a tripod or other stabiliser, and using a shutter release assists in many scenarios:

- To minimise camera shake while using a slow shutter speed or shooting multiple exposures or bracketed images

- For wildlife photography – you can set up your camera and hide further away to avoid scaring off the animals you want to photograph

- If you wish to appear in the photos you take (e.g. a self portrait or group shot including yourself)

- When you want or need to interact with the scene you’re photographing, for creative effect (e.g. light painting, stop motion, splash photography, etc)

Wireless or Wired?

Wireless remote shutter release is achieved via infrared communication or radio waves between your camera and the camera remote trigger. The remote control units allow you to operate the camera shutter from a distance of up to several metres away, depending on the specific remote model you choose. For remote shooting over longer distances, and for remote operation of equipment through walls or around corners you’ll need remote control transmitters and receivers that communicate by radio waves rather than infrared.

Some camera triggers are wired; these sometimes have a quicker response rate (compared to wireless) but they obviously limit how far from the camera you need to be. Depending on your needs, choose the remote type that best suits your type of photography.

Also, make sure to check that your camera is compatible with the mirrorless or DSLR remote that you want to purchase.
