At the heart of the R6 Mark III is a newly developed 32.5-megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor—a 34% resolution increase over its predecessor. This sensor offers exceptional detail, clarity, and cropping flexibility, making it well-suited for both high-resolution photography and detailed 7K video capture. Paired with the powerful DIGIC X image processor, the camera achieves superb image quality, low noise performance, and impressive dynamic range. The processor also drives the advanced Dual Pixel CMOS AF II system, rapid burst shooting at up to 40 frames per second, and the enhanced in-body image stabilisation.

7K Video Recording for Hybrid Creators

Expanding its appeal to filmmakers and content creators, the R6 Mark III offers internal 7K video recording at up to 60p in 12-bit Canon RAW Light format. When paired with an external recorder, it can output 7K up to 30p in ProRes RAW for professional-grade workflows. For sharper and cleaner results, the 4K FINE mode oversamples from the full 7K image, producing exceptionally detailed 4K footage in both DCI and UHD resolutions using Canon’s XF-AVC S format.

Open Gate 3:2 recording at 7K 30p is also available in 10-bit MP4 or 12-bit RAW, allowing creators to easily crop and reframe for vertical 9:16, square 1:1, or other creative aspect ratios. This flexibility makes the R6 Mark III particularly appealing for modern content creation, where footage must adapt to multiple formats and platforms.

Dual Pixel CMOS AF II with Intelligent Subject Detection

Borrowing advanced autofocus technology from Canon’s flagship models, the R6 Mark III features the Dual Pixel CMOS AF II system—renowned for its speed, precision, and reliability. The system intelligently detects and tracks people, animals, and vehicles, locking onto subjects with remarkable accuracy even during fast movement. A new “Register People Priority” function allows users to pre-register individuals, ensuring the camera prioritises focus on specific people during complex scenes such as events or weddings.

8.5-Stop In-Body Image Stabilisation

The upgraded in-body image stabilisation (IBIS) system provides up to 8.5 stops of shake correction at the centre of the frame and 7.5 stops at the periphery. This dramatically improves handheld performance, especially in low light, and produces smoother, steadier video footage. When combined with optically stabilised lenses, the R6 Mark III’s Coordinated IS technology enhances stability even further, delivering exceptional sharpness in challenging shooting conditions.
