Exceptionally wide and impressively fast, the Canon RF 14mm f/1.4 L VCM is a compact yet highly capable ultra-wide prime designed for both stills and video. Its function-first approach is tailored to hybrid creators who demand excellent image quality, L-series durability, fast and reliable autofocus, minimal focus breathing, and intuitive, silent, and highly customisable handling.

Optimised for Photography

Well suited to nature, landscape, architecture, astrophotography and street photography, this ultra-wide prime offers a sweeping angle of view that enables strong, dynamic compositions with an exaggerated sense of space and foreground presence. The fast f/1.4 maximum aperture provides excellent control over depth of field and performs exceptionally well in low-light conditions, making it particularly appealing for astrophotography.

The optical design incorporates ultra-low dispersion, fluorite and Blue Spectrum Refractive Optics elements to reduce chromatic aberrations and deliver impressive clarity and colour accuracy. Three glass-moulded aspherical elements further improve edge-to-edge sharpness and help control distortion. Canon’s Super Spectra, Air Sphere, and Subwavelength Structure coatings work together to minimise flare and ghosting, while the rounded 11-blade diaphragm produces smooth, natural-looking out-of-focus areas.

Optimised for Video

For video work, the lens’s ultra-wide field of view and close-focusing capability can be combined with camera movement to create especially immersive and dynamic scenes. A manual aperture ring with a de-click switch allows for smooth, silent iris pulls, while focus breathing is exceptionally well controlled to maintain a consistent composition when racking focus. The linear focus motor provides precise and intuitive manual focus control, and the lens shares a matched design with other Canon Hybrid series primes, including a common 67mm front filter thread and similar overall dimensions, making it easy to swap lenses and maintain balanced rigs during a shoot.
