Extreme Wide-Angle Fisheye Zoom with Distinctive Character
Combining an enormous field of view with unmistakable fisheye rendering, the Canon RF 7–14mm f/2.8–3.5 L Fisheye STM is an ultra-wide zoom designed for bold, dynamic imagery. As the first fisheye lens developed for the RF mount, it delivers an expansive angle of view of up to 190°, offering both circular and diagonal fisheye coverage depending on focal length and sensor format. Advanced optics and thoughtful design make it a compelling creative tool for both stills and video.
Unique Field of View and Fisheye Rendering
This ultra-wide fisheye lens produces dramatic distortion and an exaggerated sense of space, making it well suited to action sports, creative landscapes, underwater photography, astrophotography, architecture and experimental visual work. The optical design incorporates five ultra-low dispersion elements and two aspherical elements, helping to maintain excellent colour accuracy and strong sharpness while keeping the lens relatively compact and lightweight. Canon’s Air Sphere and Super Spectra coatings reduce flare and ghosting, improving contrast and clarity when working in challenging lighting conditions.
Zoom Design and Sensor Coverage
Unlike conventional zoom lenses, changes in focal length also alter the fisheye effect and image coverage. At 7mm on a full-frame camera, the lens produces a fully circular fisheye image with an immense 190° angle of view. At 14mm, it becomes a diagonal, frame-filling fisheye with a 180° angle of view. When used on APS-C cameras, a clearly marked ‘C’ position on the zoom ring at approximately 8.7mm indicates the point at which vignetting disappears and the image fully covers the sensor. Between 7mm and this point, the circular image extends beyond the frame, resulting in visible vignetting.
Close-Focus Creative Potential
Close-up shooting further enhances the distinctive qualities of this lens. With a minimum focusing distance of just 15 centimetres, the front of the lens can be positioned roughly 5 centimetres from the subject, allowing photographers and filmmakers to exaggerate shapes, textures and spatial depth. Subjects appear bold and immersive, while background details remain visible, curving away with a classic fisheye look that emphasises scale and perspective.
