Back-illuminated APS-C/ Super 35mm CMOS Sensor

Engineered with a brand new Back-illuminated APS-C, Super 35mm format Exmor R CMOS sensor with 20.1 effective megapixels for movies and 26 MP for stills. The sensor's BSI design, paired with the BIONZ XR processor, delivers exceptional image clarity with low noise, even in challenging lighting scenarios. Recording in S-Log3 gamma offers an impressive 14+ stops of dynamic range for working in mixed lighting conditions, and the Dual Base ISO’s of 800 and 2500 work to improve low light performance. Utilising an oversampled 6K image to deliver outstanding 4K resolution at up to 60 fps or 120 fps with a crop. 

Flexible Recording Formats 

For maximum image tonality and post-production flexibility, the FX30 can record 10-bit 4:2:2 video internally when using Long GOP or All-Intra compression. Recording in XAVC HS format increases compression efficiency for manageable file sizes while allowing detailed 10-bit video with 4:2:2 colour sampling for professional-grade image quality. For highly demanding editing options, the HDMI output supports 16-bit raw video to compatible external recorders. 

Highly Accurate Hybrid Autofocus System

Enjoy high-speed and highly accurate autofocus performance thanks to Sony’s sophisticated hybrid AF system. Easily keep your subject focused with advanced tracking features and AI-based subject recognition that ensures precise focus on the face and eyes of humans, birds and other animals. Autofocus is also possible when capturing super smooth 5x (max.) slow-motion imagery, providing limitless options for creative expression.

Professional Image Control

• S-Cinetone brings the same colour science found in Sony’s more advanced Cinema cameras to create natural mid-tones, smooth highlights and cinematic colours directly in camera. Perfect for filmmakers who need to capture high-quality footage requiring little to no colour grading. 
• For maximum image quality and total creative control in post-production, Sony’s S-Log3 and S-Gamut3.Cine picture profiles will capture the most significant amount of dynamic range and colour flexibility, making achieving a desired look and mood easier.
• Three new Log shooting modes are provided for recording with the S-Log3 profile and offer a range of image quality and flexibility options.
• Accurately monitor the final image by applying custom LUTs to the LCD monitor and HDMI output or embedding them directly into the recorded footage to facilitate post-production processing when recording with the S-Log3.

Lightweight and Ergonomic Design for Solo Creators

• Five 1/4"-20 threaded mounting points for secure attachment of accessories make a cage unnecessary, reducing system size and weight for easier handheld shooting.

• The 5-axis in-body image stabilisation system compensates for camera shake to provide smooth handheld filming without a gimbal, even when shooting 4K.
• Dual media slots accept both CFexpress Type A and SD cards, offering storage versatility for different situations. The ultra-fast data transfer speeds of CFexpress Type A cards can be used for more advanced recording functions, while SD cards provide a more affordable option for general shooting.
• Maximum connectivity includes the optional XLR Handle Unit, USB-C connection for high-speed data transfer or for powering the camera, full-size HDMI output, a 3.5mm headphone output and a 3.5mm microphone input.
• A side-opening vari-angle high-resolution touch-panel LCD monitor.
• Tally lamps are located on the upper front and rear of the camera for easy confirmation of recording.
