This year’s Visual Storytelling Festival was a huge success and proved a hit with new and loyal customers alike. In fact, it was our biggest and best photography festival yet!

Hundreds of people joined in the fun, beginning with a traditional welcome to country by Songwoman Maroochy Barambah  and a traditional smoking ceremony by Mazene Kids - both very special and a fabulous way to kick-off the day’s calendar of events.

The schedule was jampacked, with people coming and going all day long to attend free workshops and low-cost master classes held by experts in their respective fields, as well as set off on photography walking tours with hands-on guidance and new equipment.

Presentations on the day covered many facets of visual storytelling, from creating powerful stories in underwater photography conditions to astro photography and the power of portraits. Other presentations delved into documentary practice and non-fiction storytelling, tips for career development and how to tell your story on social media and engage followers.

In-store, we also had local representatives from our major brands – including Olympus, Canon, Tamron, Fujifilm, Aquatech and Nikon – all full of great insider tips, with the latest gear to test out and ready to share their expertise.

What else? There was also tonnes of entertainment, including a live set from Brisbane band The Fergies, and plenty of prizes, giveaways and food and drink.

Plus, we launched the new studio space behind our Newstead Basecamp – where our studio masterclasses were held. Keep your eyes peeled as soon we’ll be officially launching this space to the public.

The feedback we received from the day was outstanding – here’s a glimpse at what you loved the most about the Visual Storytelling Festival:

“The workshops were fantastic, the staff were amazing and so helpful, the food etc was really nice, all in all a great way to spend a Saturday”

“The organisation gets better each time. Perhaps the only bad thing is that workshops book out so quickly as they are all so popular!!!!”

“Love the range of presenters here. I took away some great information and inspiration from each session that I attended.”

“Very informative, and great little touches, like the coffee cart and lunchtime entertainment. “

“It was very well organised with good content“

“Loved the diversity of speakers, the provision of lunch and coffee cart, the opportunity to catch up with people, the sale! well organised overall and an enjoyable day!”

Thanks to everyone for participating in the feedback survey!

We look forward to another successful photography festival later in the year!
