The Canon 50mm 1.8 STM lens is a compact yet powerful prime lens. With a versatile 50mm focal length and near-silent autofocus, it’s great for capturing a wide range of stills and video, from street and everyday snapshots to portraits and editorial images. The Canon 50mm 1.8’s fast maximum aperture gives you the ability to work in dim light and its 7-blade rounded diaphragm creates soft bokeh for artistic results.

5 Year Warranty from Canon Australia

Ideal Focal Length for Everyday

Featuring a versatile 50mm focal length, the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM lens is designed to make the most of full-frame Canon DSLRs. It can also be used with APS-C-sized sensor cameras, on which it will provide an 80mm equivalent focal length. This 50mm lens is popular for travel, wedding and street photographers as it’s ideal for everyday snapshots, food photography and portraiture.

Fast Aperture for Low Light

When you’re working in low-light conditions like a live music venue or candlelit wedding chapel, a fast f1.8 aperture gives you greater control over depth of field. By allowing more light into the lens while also capturing colour and detail, the Canon 50mm 1.8 lens also offers professional quality shots even in dimly lit conditions. Tricky light situations such as dusk, dawn, night scenes and dim light won’t be a frustrating challenge with this lens. You’ll end up with sharp, vivid imagery in all lighting conditions, even without a tripod.

Create Soft Bokeh Effects

With its 7-blade rounded diaphragm, this Canon 50mm lens creates beautiful bokeh when shooting with a shallow depth of field. You’ll be able to achieve soft, out-of-focus backgrounds while sharply defining your subject. Blurry backgrounds create a subtle mood in your shots and bring out the detail in your subject.

Near Silent Autofocus

Equipped with an STM stepping motor, the Canon 50mm f1.8 lens is designed to capture images quickly and smoothly with near-silent autofocus. This focusing mechanism pairs well with Canon cameras featuring Movie Servo AF mode that enables continuous focusing performance when working in live view. This is ideal when you need to be candid and fast while shooting.

Manual Focus Override

Full-time manual focus override is available for fine-tuning your focus position. You can change from auto to manual focus simply by adjusting your focus ring – with no need to adjust in the settings. This is especially helpful when you’re trying to capture a moment of action or up-close detail that is harder to shoot with autofocus.

Anti-Reflection Coating

Lens coatings stop reflection to reduce chromatic aberrations such as flaring and ghosting. These distortions, which are common in digital photography, create unwanted halos in your images. The Canon 50mm 1.8 STM lens’ coatings will minimise this to give you clarity in your images with excellent colour reproduction.

Lightweight and Durable

The Canon 50mm 1.8 STM lens is compact at 6.9 x 3.9cm and encased in a hardy metal barrel that fits nicely in the hand. Weighing just 159g, it’s light to carry around and won’t weigh down your kit. The metal mount securely clicks into the camera body for a strong connection.
