Years of research and development, along with cutting-edge technologies, go into designing Fujifilm lenses to ensure their quality and performance. Here’s a quick guide to Fujifilm lens abbreviations and the features that they stand for:
APD – An optical filter that reduces how much light passes through the lens in order to create silkier bokeh
ED / Super ED – Special optical glass producing ’Extra-low Dispersion’ of wavelengths to correct chromatic aberration
HT-EBC – A process applied to the front element of selected Fujinon lenses, High Transmittance Electron Beam Coating greatly reduces ghosting and flare
LM – A common feature in Fujinon lenses, Linear Motor technology provides fast, accurate, smooth and quiet focusing plus image stabilisation
Nano GI Coating – Latest generation lens coating technology that uses nanoparticles to prevent reflections such as flare and ghosting
OIS – Counteracting up to five stops of camera shake, Fujifilm lenses’ Optical Image Stabilisation also utilises unique Drift Tracking technology that helps to correct low-frequency camera shake at slower shutter speeds
R – Indicates whether the lens has an aperture ring, adjustable in 1/3 EV steps
STM – Ideal for video recording, a Stepping Motor provides improved and highly controlled autofocus that’s perfectly silent
WR – Weather Resistant lenses are sealed against water and dust, and able to operate in temperatures as low as -10°C
