Tripods & Monopods

When the perfect shot demands a rock-steady camera platform, you can rely on a tripod or monopod from CameraPro to get the job done. We stock professional quality aluminium and carbon fibre tripods, monopods, hybrids, heads and accessories from trusted brands like Manfrotto, Gitzo, Benro, MeFOTO and Vanguard. Lightweight yet extremely durable, our tripods and monopods give you the confidence to shoot sharp, level images, whether in the studio or perched high up on a mountain ledge.

We cater for videoographers too. Check out our fluid head tripod kits to optimise your video shooting experience.

Why Use A Tripod?

With three sturdy, lockable and extendable legs, a tripod is arguably the most stable platform on which you can mount and elevate a camera. This ensures sharpness in static areas of your photos (great for long exposures and time lapses) as well as consistency in framing—very helpful for fashion or product photography, portraiture, and creative applications like stop motion.

Why Use A Monopod?

Essentially a one-legged tripod, a monopod is most useful in tight or crowded spaces or where tripods aren’t allowed. Monopods are lighter and quicker to deploy than tripods but still provide a lot of stability when used correctly, so they’re ideal when you require more speed and freedom (such as at sporting events or when chasing wildlife). They’re especially useful for supporting very large or heavy lenses.

How to Choose a Tripod or Monopod

Tripods and monopods are responsible for holding and stabilising your gear, so we recommend that you invest in a well built model with an adequate payload

Consider also the tripod/monopod’s size when extended or collapsed. Does it need to be used at eye level or stowed in a carry-on bag?

Weight is another major factor. If you need to be moving quickly or cover a lot of distance, a lightweight tripod or monopod is an obvious choice. The lightest are made from carbon fibre, which tend to cost more but are well worth the investment; Gitzo tripods and carbon fibre Manfrotto tripods are highly recommended. That said, more weight equals more stability, so aim for something sturdy enough to resist bumps or breezes.

What Type of Head?

A monopod or tripod head attaches the camera (or a large lens mounted on the camera) to the tripod/monopod and allows the camera to be manoeuvred.

We advise starting with a head (e.g. a ball head or three-way head) that allows for pan, tilt and height adjustments. These basic movements allow for greater flexibility and are enough for most photographic situations.

A fluid head tripod is the recommended option for video recording. The fluid based design keeps the camera smooth and level while panning, preventing unwanted shakes or shudders.
