Outstanding Full-Frame Images

The newly-developed 24.2 back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS full-frame sensor works in conjunction with the BIONZ X image processor to ensure the new Sony a7 Mark III delivers outstanding, high-resolution photos and video while minimising noise. It also boosts processing speed by about 1.8 times in comparison to the a7 Mark II and enables an impressive ISO range of 100 to 51200 (expandable to ISO 50 – 204800). It also features a five-axis optical image stabilisation system, advancements in colour reproduction technology and the ability to output 14-bit RAW files.

AF Speed and Performance

With a level of performance that’s largely improved over the a7 II, the Sony a7 III offers new possibilities. With 425 contrast AF points working in conjunction with a 693-point focal-plane phase-detection AF system, the AF system covers 93 percent of the frame, with reliable focusing. AF response and tracking is also vastly improved, with double the focusing speed in low-light and double the tracking speed, ensuring precision and accuracy in all scenarios, from sports to portraitureWildlife photographers will love that silent shooting is available at up to 10 frames per second with AF/AE. The Eye AF feature is also impressive, which comes in particularly handy when the subject is looking away or obstructed.

Speedy Image Processing

Shoot full-resolution images at up to 10 frames per second with continuous, AF/AE tracking for up to 177 standard JPEG images, 89 compressed RAW images or 40 uncompressed RAW images. In live view mode, you can also shoot continuously at up to 8 frames per second with minimal display lag. Better yet, while large numbers of burst images are being written to the card many key camera functions—including image playback and the ‘Fn’ and ‘Menu’ buttons—are still completely available to use.

High-quality 4K Video

The Sony a7 III camera is more than just a great choice for photographers; it also proves outstanding for budding and experienced videographers alike, with 4K video recording across the full width of the full-frame image sensor. By collecting more than enough data and then oversampling it, the camera achieves exceptional detail and depth, ensuring superior quality 4K footage. The a7 III also offers an HLG (Hybrid Log-Gamme) xiy picture profile for instant HDR workflow, S-Log2, and S-Log3 for increased colour grading flexibility, as well as gamma display assist, proxy recording and zebra functionality.

How long does the battery last when shooting with this camera?

The Sony Alpha A7R Mark III uses the high-capacity Z-series NP-FZ100 rechargeable lithium-ion battery from Sony. When used together, it will deliver up to approximately 530 shots per charge when shooting with the viewfinder.

What is pixel shift multi shooting?

Pixel Shift shooting is a new and unique compositing function in the Sony a7R III, which allows you to achieve greater than 42.4MP resolution – increasing it by four times. By taking four images and shifting the sensor 1 pixel between each, the camera is able to capture extra resolution – you can then combine the images later in post-production using the Sony Imagine software. It will still be a 42-megapixel file, but will contain four times the resolution. You’ll be amazed by the detail!

Can I rate the images in-camera to get a head start on editing?

Yes, the camera features a ratings function so you can assign star values, from 1-5, to images in-camera while you’re on the go, so you can edit and sort your images faster once you’re at home during post-production.

What is the write speed of the camera so I can choose the best memory card to match?

The memory card slot 1 is UHS-II compatible – perfect for the Sony SF-G Series UHS-II SD, for the best performance. The second card slot is UHS-I compatible – ideal for the SF-UZ Series SD.

Can the A7R III dual card slot record video in 4K simultaneously?
