World’s First 22.2x Ultra-Telephoto Zoom Lens for APS-C

Capture it all with the Tamron 18-400mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC HLD (Model B028) – the world’s first 22.2x zoom lens for APS-C cameras. With an incredible 28-620mm equivalent zoom, this ultra-telephoto lens can frame everything from the vast expanse of a hilltop view to the intricate detail of a distant bird’s feathers. LD (Low Dispersion) glass and aspherical lens elements combat chromatic aberration and distortion, ensuring crisp, high-quality images throughout the lens’ zoom range.

Portable & Moisture-Resistant

Thanks to the Tamron 18-400mm lens, you no longer need large, heavy interchangeable lenses to shoot at ultra-telephoto ranges. Tamron’s all-in-one zoom technology means you can shoot across a huge focal range, from wide angle to ultra-telephoto, with a single lens. Measuring just 121.4mm long and weighing only 705g, the Tamron 18-400mm is not only easy to handle but also great for travel. It’s moisture resistant, too, so you can confidently take on the great outdoors.

Flat Perspective & Tele-Macro Capabilities

You’ll be amazed by the creative possibilities offered by the Tamron 18-400mm Nikon lens. Widen your aperture to capture dreamlike soft backgrounds or narrow your aperture to produce perspective-flattening effects only possible with extreme telephoto lenses. You can even enjoy tele-macro photography, thanks to the Tamron 18-400mm lens’ 1:2.9 maximum magnification ratio. This makes it possible to photograph small subjects, like delicate flowers or buzzing insects, in detail without disturbing or overshadowing them.

High-Precision Autofocus

Featuring Tamron’s exclusive HLD (High/Low torque-modulated Drive), the Tamron 18-400mm Nikon lens delivers smooth, quiet, high-precision autofocus. This ensures you can keep up with and capture the moment—be it a swooping eagle or a spontaneous laugh—with ease and accuracy. As well as providing superior drive performance, HLD saves power and space, enabling a sleeker and more compact lens design.

Vibration Compensation for Sharper Results

Getting sharp shots with long lenses is often a challenge, but Vibration Compensation (VC) in the Tamron 18-400mm Nikon lens makes the job significantly easier. This image stabilisation feature counteracts hand shake by 2.5 stops, allowing you to frame and capture images sharply – even when shooting in dim lighting or with the lens zoomed right in.

Does the Tamron 18-400mm Nikon lens work on full frame or mirrorless cameras?

The Tamron 18-400mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC HLD lens is designed for Nikon DX format DSLR cameras with APS-C sensors (such as the D5600 and Nikon D7500).

Mirrorless Cameras
The Nikon FTZ adapter will let you mount the Tamron 18-400mm lens on Nikon Z series mirrorless cameras like the Nikon Z50.

Full Frame Cameras
The Tamron 18-400mm lens won’t cover a full frame sensor so, while it can be mounted on a full frame Nikon DSLR (e.g. Nikon D850, Nikon D6) or mirrorless camera via the FTZ adapter, it will produce significant vignetting on full frame cameras.

Can the Tamron 18-400mm Nikon lens be used on a tripod?

There is no tripod collar available for the Tamron 18-400mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC HLD lens, so it can’t be mounted to a tripod.

Does the Tamron 18-400mm lens have manual focus override?

No – with the Tamron 18-400mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC HLD lens, you can’t override AF (autofocus) by simply rotating the focus ring. You need to switch from AF to MF mode in order to manually focus.

Does the front element of the Tamron 18-400mm Nikon lens rotate when you zoom or focus?

No, the front element of the Tamron 18-400mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC HLD lens doesn’t rotate during zooming or focusing. This makes it suitable for use with a polarising filter.
