Get the full frame photography experience at a low price with the new Sony A7 E-Mount Full Frame Compact System Camera. Featuring a 24 megapixel full frame sensor, a hybrid AF system that is quicker than on the Sony RX series cameras, and in-built WiFi and NFC, the Sony A7 matches the full frame performance of DSLRs like the Nikon D610, but at a much more affordable price.

The Sony full frame advantage

In developing the Sony Alpha 7 Full Frame system Sony elected to bring full frame technology to their mirrorless range. But instead of branding it a NEX they’ve used their DSLR Alpha branding as a way to mark out the camera as a professional system aimed at high-end enthusiasts and professional photographers.

Image quality is truly outstanding. The Sony A7’s full frame 24 megapixel sensor and X BIONZ image processor combine with gapless micro lenses to render scenes with a depth and clarity that is beyond that obtained on the A99. Low light performance is astounding with virtually no noise at the top end of the ISO 50 – 25600 range, while strong performance across a wide dynamic range delivers exceptionally sharp detail in highlights and shadows.

Being a full frame camera the Sony A7 offers exceptional control over depth of field. Creamy bokeh shots are within easy reach, while sharp focus across an extremely narrow range opens up more creative avenues. The full frame nature of the Sony Alpha 7 ensures that a larger picture area than on NEX cameras is available at shorter focal lengths too. This means it can take full advantage of existing E-mount lenses at their stated 35mm equivalent focal lengths, as well as enjoy the new range of E-mount lenses released at the same time as the A7 (see below).

Hybrid AF System

The Sony Alpha 7 full frame mirrorless camera uses both contrast and phase detection in a hybrid autofocus system. It is lightning quick,  the 117 on-chip phase detection points working in tandem with 25 contrast detection AF points to deliver super sharp imagery regardless of whether your subject is centred in your field of view, or off to one side. Sony say that the Hybrid AF System competes with high-end DSLRs on AF speed and accuracy, and can track erratic moving subjects with  continuous AF, keeping them in sharp focus at all times. In manual mode a focus peaking system allows focus to be fine-tuned for razor sharp photos.

Speed

With the new BIONZ X image processor on board the Sony Alpha 7 offers a continuous shooting speed of 5fps. 14-bit RAW images can be shot continuously too, while an advanced 1200-zone evaluative metering system ensures exquisite control over white balance to deliver highly accurate images when shooting in mixed artificial light, such as in restaurants and stadiums. Fastest shutter speed is 1/8000s, enabling you to freeze high-speed action crisply and in high definition without movement blur.

Full HD Movies

The Sony A7 full frame Compact System Camera is not just for stills photography. Stunning full HD uncompressed video footage can be captured at an ultra-quick 60 frames per second. Frame transitions are extra-smooth and finely detailed across a high dynamic range. Movies are broadcast quality, and may be recorded in a choice of AVCHD or MP4 formats.

WiFi and NFC Technology

Shoot your Sony Alpha 7 camera remotely using your smartphone, tablet or laptop. WiFi control gives you access to all of the primary camera settings on the A7. Change exposure, aperture and focus from distance, and capture images without being behind the lens.

Image and video sharing is made real easy too. Transfer pictures and footage wirelessly, or use NFC technology to instantly transfer your data to other physical devices.

Lenses

Being an E-mount system camera, the Sony Alpha 7 is compatible with all E-mount lenses, and also with the newly released  FE 28-70mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS, Sonnar T* FE Zeiss 35mm f/2.8 ZA and Zeiss Sonnar T* FE 55mm f/1.8 ZA lenses. The Sony Alpha 7 is in fact available to buy as a body only or with one of these lenses in a kit.
