Endlessly rumoured and eagerly anticipated, Canon’s first full frame mirrorless camera is finally a reality. Introducing the Canon EOS R

Canon’s Mirrorless Revolution

Canon has long been synonymous with quality, usability and reliability. Their cameras’ imaging excellence, user-centric design and first-class construction—as well as the brand's outstanding lens range—have seen Canon dominate the camera market, from novice to expert, for many years. But Canon's mirrorless offerings haven’t quite approached the professional end of the market…until now.

With a 30.3MP full frame sensor (ISO 100-40,000) at its heart, the EOS R boasts the fastest autofocus of any full frame camera to date, made possible by a staggering 5,655 AF points that can function in the dark. Capable of shooting 4K @ 30p, it also features a fully articulated touchscreen, an OLED electronic viewfinder and an LCD info panel on top of the camera—all in a thoughtfully designed body weighing just 75% of the 5D Mark IV (including battery).

New Canon RF Lenses & EF-RF Adapters

It gets better. Canon has also unveiled four brand new lenses for the new system, and the specs look impressive indeed:

Along with the zoom and manual focus dials, each RF lens also features a control ring allowing you to adjust the camera’s aperture, shutter speed, ISO or exposure compensation from the lens itself. Incredibly, unlike any standard zoom lens before it, the RF 28-70mm lens offers consistent f/2 brightness. If Canon’s previous lenses—the L Series in particular—are anything to go by, the optical quality of this lens (and the other RF lenses) should be outstanding.

For those with EF and/or EF-S lenses, Canon has also released three innovative adapters to use with the new system:

The first is a straight EF-RF adapter, while the second gives your EF and EF-S lenses the RF lenses’ control ring functionality to adjust the aperture, shutter speed, ISO and exposure compensation. The third is the first ever adapter designed with a slot for drop-in ND and circular polarising filters—meaning those filters can be used across all EF and EF-S lenses, regardless of filter size.
