The Canon 50mm f1.4 USM lens is compatible with all EF-mount Canon cameras, both full frame (e.g. Canon 6D) and APS-C/cropped sensor (e.g. Canon 90D, Canon 800D, Canon 1500D).
The EF-RF mount adapter will let you mount the lens on Canon EOS R series mirrorless cameras, while the EF-M mount adapter will let you mount the lens on Canon EOS M series mirrorless cameras.
With the Sigma MC-11 mount converter or an EF to E-mount Metabones adapter, the lens can also work on Sony E-mount cameras.
Please note that the Canon 50mm f1.4 lens’ effective focal length when used on an APS-C/cropped sensor cameras would equate to 80mm.
The Canon 50mm f1.4 USM lens is compatible with 58mm circular filters.
The Canon 50mm f1.4 does not come with a lens hood. The compatible Canon ES-71 II lens hood is available for separate purchase.
The Canon 50mm f1.4 USM lens would work for family and small-group portraits. Just be mindful that with more people in the photo, you will likely need a narrower aperture (no wider than f4) to ensure everyone is in focus. You’ll also need to move further backwards to get everyone in the frame.
For larger groups or smaller spaces where you don’t have the option to move further away, you may find a wider lens (24-35mm full frame equivalent) more suitable.
