While the Canon 100-400mm lens is weather sealed, we recommend keeping a small microfiber towel or cloth in your camera bag in case you encounter an unexpected downpour. A cleaning kits also is handy to keep your lens dust free and keep it in good condition to last for years.
Protecting the front element in your lens is important if you’re exposing it to the outdoor elements. A protector filter will keep your lens safe and in good condition. However, it’s best not to stack filters as it can compromise the quality of your images. If you’re wanting to use a polarising or neutral density filter we would suggest removing the protector filter first.
The improved image stabilisation in this lens means you can get crisp shots even while shooting handheld. However, if you’re going to be shooting for long periods of time a monopod can be a real life (and arm) saver!
