GPS units

GPS units

Recording accurate geo-location data for each image you take with your DSLR or Compact System Camera is easy with a camera-enabled GPS unit. Simply attach the unit to your camera via the hot shoe connection and switch it on. Once activated GPS units log your latitude, longitude, altitude, shooting direction and Co-ordinated Universal Time (UTC) for each frame taken. Data is stored in your image’s EXIF fields to provide you with a detailed record of exactly where each image was shot.

GPS Units at CameraPro
At CameraPro we stock GPS units for Canon and Nikon cameras. The Canon GP-E2 GPS unit is a smart and compact receiver with a simple dial control for geo tagging. It is compatible with Canon DSLRs including the Canon EOS 5D Mark III, EOS 7D and EOS 1D-X.

For Nikon DSLRs the GP-1 GPS unit accurately captures geo tagging data in as little as 5-seconds (45 seconds from cold start). It uses a green blinking indicator to show GPS data captured from 3 satellites, and a solid green indicator for more accurate data acquisition from 4 or more satellites.

Nikon’s GP-N100 brings geo tagging capabilities to the Nikon 1 range of Compact System Cameras. Available in black and white versions the GP-N100 features a USB port and cable for connecting the unit to a computer. Photographers can then acquire GPS data faster for their location by logging into one of Nikon’s online servers.

Additionally, Canon and Nikon GPS units can also be used as standalone GPS devices, so you’ll always know where you are no matter how unfamiliar the terrain.
